Bill Berkowitz


Bill Berkowitz is an Oakland, California-based writer covering conservative movements. He grew up in the Bronx, five blocks from Yankee Stadium; was a student organizer/activist at the University of Kansas and co-founder of Reconstruction, the state’s first modern-day underground newspaper; the Berkeley, California UFW boycott organizer; the first promotions director for NACLA (North American Congress of Latin America); and a co-founder of the DataCenter, a research library for social and political activists, where he published CultureWatch, a newsletter tracking right wing movements. He has been a columnist for Working Assets’ WorkingForChange and The Nation, has contributed to several books, and is a contributor to BuzzFlash, Talk2Action, The Smirking Chimp, Z Magazine, Street Sheet, AlterNet and many more online and print publications. In 2005, he received a Special Journalism Award from the Before Columbus Foundation.
